Built in 1960, the 18-foot-tall dam was supposed to boost fishing by maintaining high water levels, rather than letting the lake fluctuate on its own. When the Dead Lakes Dam was new, fish corralled in the reservoir were much easier to catch than the ones in the free-flowing river.

Very nice Florida State Park Campground. We usually judge a Campground primarily on having nice level campsites and clean, well maintained bathrooms. Rodman CG had both. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend d this Campground near the Florida Barge Canal west of Palatka.
