What do Telpas scores mean?
The TELPAS reading vertical scale score is a statistic that can be used for evaluating a student’s annual growth and pinpointing how high or low a student performs within a proficiency level. These students have a small vocabulary of very common words and little ability to use English in academic settings.

Students who do not make steady progress may require additional assistance at school. The following brief descriptions will help you understand the abilities generally demonstrated by students at the four English proficiency levels. How do I pass Telpas?
Do not focus on only one or the other. Do not weigh a first or last video sample or writing sample any more heavily than another other sample when rating students. Make note of each student’s grade level during calibration. Remember, you are rating the ability to understand and use English in grade-level contexts.
